But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done.

You Have Seen and You Have Heard
Moses is reviewing the events and the concepts that they have learned in the wilderness over the last forty years. Moses is repetitive and is speaking as a teacher who is drilling students with information for rote memory and to establish modus operandi or standard behavior procedure. Moses is establishing the “default” setting in the souls of this generation who will enter the Promised Land and defeat their enemies. Moses has been teaching the souls of these people verbally for forty years, while God taught them through situations of life.
Moses tells them “it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done” and, also tells them, “observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today.” For forty years Israel has seen and heard the ways of the Lord.
If a generation today would ever take time to see what God was doing and at the same time hear the commands, or the decrees of Truth from God’s word, they too would be equipped for a great conquest.
Sophizo (Gr) – Make Wise, To Devise (Eng) - sophizo is a Greek word that comes from
Sophos, or “wise,” is used in 2 Timothy 3:15 "to make wise." But, in 2 Peter 1:16 it means
“to play the sophist” or “to devise cleverly.”

The Sinlessness of Christ is necessary for our salvation. If Christ had not been without blemish he would have needed a savior himself. Jesus was born and lived completely free from any transgression. Jesus had desires (hunger, friendship, etc.), but he had no sinful desires. The sinlessness of Christ is necessary for our salvation. A Galley (ship) commemorates Herod Archelaus’ voyage to Rome at the start of his reign to secure his position as king since his father, Herod the Great, had altered his will in his final hours to remove Archelaus. The galley (ship) was on the coins to remind the Jews that Rome approved Archelaus’ reign. The galley also has an aphlaston (the upward curving stern of an ancient war ship), oars and a ram. The inscriptions say ETHNARCH on the reverse side and HEROD on the obverse, which also has a double cornucopia adorned with a grape vine. Another symbol that was on Herod Archelaus’ coins was the Caduceus which was the wing-topped staff with two snakes that was carried by Hermes the god who brought messages from the gods to men since the Caduceus was a symbol for truce, neutrality and Archelaus wanted to maintain that non-combative status with Rome. It was understood that Apollo had given to Archelaus.

15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him. 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him. 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

The Silver Trumpets
10 The Lord said to Moses: 2 “Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together and for having the camps set out. 3 When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 4 If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you. 5 When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out. 6 At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out. The blast will be the signal for setting out. 7 To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the signal for setting out.
8 “The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come. 9 When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies. 10 Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts—you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.”

11 On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year, the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle of the covenant law. 12 Then the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai and traveled from place to place until the cloud came to rest in the Desert of Paran. 13 They set out, this first time, at the Lord’s command through Moses.
14 The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard. Nahshon son of Amminadab was in command. 15 Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar, 16 and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun. 17 Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.

Elizur son of Shedeur was in command. 19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon, 20 and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad. 21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.

30 He answered, “No, I will not go; I am going back to my own land and my own people.”
31 But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. 32 If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the Lord gives us.”
33 So they set out from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest. 34 The cloud of the Lord was over them by day when they set out from the camp.

“Rise up, Lord! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you.”
